SLSO- Teacher's Aide
January 2012-December 2015
Personal reflection

Working in a Primary school environment for four years as a teacher's aide was a rewarding experience. I collaborated with the infant's department initially in the Kindergarten classroom. Later I worked with an individual student with high and diverse needs. This involved intense collaboration with the supervising teacher, as well as using initiative to provide an experience of learning that was safe and rewarding for the student. Throughout my time at E.A. Southee School, I was involved in supervising school sporting events and attending excursions. These experiences both in and out of the classroom helped me to develop skills in collaborating with teachers, understand students, review teacher programs, create risk assessments, follow instructions and also use initiative. During my last year as an aide at E.A. Southee School, I was stationed on a 3/4 classroom. Merren Lawson, the classroom teacher engaged students in inquiry-based learning projects and demonstrated behaviour management strategies that I observed to be effective. Her approach to teaching has inspired me in many ways, as did many of the teachers at E.A. Southee that I had the pleasure of working beside.
