Personal Reflection

I have always been passionate about working with children. In 2003, I undertook a Certificate 3 in Community Services (Children's Services). Also, through work experience in 2002, I worked in an early childcare setting. During this placement I worked with 0-4 year olds. This experience, as well as my TAFE certification, has been invaluable to me as a pre-service teacher. While, I hope to work with students in Primary and Secondary educational settings, developing an understanding of young learners in various stages of cognitive development has aided me to become a better educator. The experience has shown me the value of play and helped me to further understand how students learn. Further, these experiences have aided my understanding of Indigenous Australian needs in a classroom, how to support the development of young learners, and the importance of maintaining a healthy and safe environment.
